Listed Course Provider

We offer preparation courses for the Trinity College London SELT Exams that can be booked by individuals or for groups. We do not run regular courses but are flexible and able to tailor courses to the needs of individual students to ensure you have the English language level and familiarity with the test itself to achieve the level you need. We will do our best to work with you to make sure you understand which test you need to prepare for and to plan out how best to prepare you.

Trinity SELT exams are recognised as an English language qualification for various UK visas*.

The most current qualifications for these are:

Further Leave to Remain (A1)

For Further Leave to Remain you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A1 in Speaking and Listening.

Trinity’s GESE Grade 2 exam (CEFR A1)

  • 6 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days
  • Speaking and listening only

Further Leave to Remain (extension) visas (A2)

There is a new requirement from May 2017 that after two-and-a-half years in the UK, non-EEA national partners and parents on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement will need to pass a SELT in speaking and listening at A2 level in order to qualify for further leave to remain.

Trinity’s GESE Grade 3 exam (CEFR A2)

  • 7 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days
  • Speaking and listening only

Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship (B1)

For Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or
British Citizenship you must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening.

Trinity’s GESE Grade 5 exam (CEFR B1)

  • 10 minute speaking and listening test
  • Provisional results on the same day
  • Certificate usually within 7 days
  • Speaking and listening only

English language tests for private hire drivers

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that all new applicants, and existing private hire drivers applying to renew their licence for the first time since the introduction of this new requirement, must now meet the equivalent of a B1 English language requirement.

Trinity’s ISE I (B1) Secure English Language Test (SELT) has been approved by TfL for this purpose — full details and how to book this exam are detailed below.

*You also need to take a Life in the UK Test as part of your application. This is not a Trinity test. Visit the government Home Office website for more information about the Life in the UK Test.
